Do your beloved T-shirts look tired and ready for the trash? Yet you don’t have the heart because of all those warm memories. Don’t toss those tees – transform them! Mike Holodnak is here to tell us how. Mike is the owner of Memory Lane Quilting.
Question: These are quilts - made out of t-shirts?
Answer: Yes. You may have an Indians fan or a football player or a travel enthusiast or even someone who’s been to a lot of rock concerts who’ve collected these. By bringing them to us to be made into a quilt, they can still enjoy them!
Question: What's the range of sizes?
Answer: The smallest is nine T-shirts or squares – the largest is 49 T-shirts. And we can use a variety of materials – mesh jerseys, summer shorts, etc. We include the backing and the batting – that’s the stuff that makes it fluffy and warm.
Question: How long does it take?
Answer: It takes about 3 ½ weeks, start to finish.
Question: And the cost?
Answer: They start at $119 for nine squares and it goes up from there, topping out at about $299.
Question: Very quickly, I see a more traditional quilt here that you call a memory quilt. Tell us about that.
Answer: We also make memory quilts for those who have passed away. People bring us a variety of shirts and materials from their loved one and we put them together. We can also add photos. It can be a very comforting way to preserve your memories.
And that “wraps” it up! For more information about these very personalized quilts, get in touch with Mike. His information is next.
