Show #459 Airing Sunday 12/21/08
There’s an old saying, “Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth!” But, your mouth – really, your smile – may be the best gift you can give – to yourself and to others! Our very "gifted" Dr. Steven Marsh is here to tell us why a beautiful smile is the gift that keeps on giving!
Question: Why is a smile so important?
Answer: It’s the first thing people see when they look at you.
A beautiful smile can give you more confidence; I have patients tell me all the time that, after treatment, they felt so much more comfortable with themselves.
And a beautiful smile can make you look more youthful. We’re living longer, working longer – even dating longer – and we all enjoy looking the best that we can.
Question: Where do we begin the smile makeover?
Answer: We start with an exam. This includes x–rays, impressions and lots of photographs. We want to have as clear of picture as possible, both from my perspective and for the patient.
Question: So, is it all about the teeth when we talk about our smile?
Answer: Actually, there are other parts to a smile as well. There are the lips which are the framework for the smile. Simple lipstick can make a big difference.

For a more pronounced change, a plastic surgeon may be helpful.
The gum position or height is also a consideration.
We can perform a “gum lift.”
. Basically, we are reshaping the gum tissue for a more attractive smile.

And then there three areas of the teeth to consider:
Condition

Shape and Color

Question: How do all of these little smile-enhancing changes fit together?
Answer: A beautiful smile can change the whole look of a patient. As you can see, a beautiful smile lights up their face – and that makes others smile as well!
Dr. Marsh can help you “unwrap” your most beautiful smile. After we wrap up this segment, give him a call for more information. The number is next.
