A Miss or Mr. America Smile. It’s one that dazzles, bright and white. But you don’t have to be a beauty queen to be crowned with winning teeth. Here to show us is the king of dental rejuvenation, Dr. Steven Marsh, and two of his patients, Joyce Wilson and her daughter, Joy Beck, who also just happen to be past winners of the Ohio Mother and Daughter Pageant.
Question: Steve, I didn't realize that you're the dentist to the stars!
Answer: Not everyone can win beauty pageants, like Joyce and Joy, but just about anyone can have a winning smile. And that can help you feel like a winner, which is most important.
Question: What simple changes can update and rejuvenate your smile?
Answer: Today, whitening teeth is really popular. Bright white teeth instantly freshen up your smile.
Smiles are also rejuvenated through the use of bonding, veneers and crowns. Front teeth become shorter over time due to normal wear and tear, and the upper lip drops as we age, so our smiles may not show enough teeth. Decay is another problem, as is the tendency for lower teeth in the front to wear down greatly.
Question: And here’s an example of a couple of smiles you’ve rejuvenated, Joy Beck and her mom Joyce Wilson. Joy, you've won a number of beauty pageants, and have had some movie roles as well. What prompted you to get your smile updated?
Answer: A few things prompted me to consider dental work. First, I had been in a car accident and had chipped my front tooth. It had been fixed with bonding, but I really wanted something more permanent. Also, I wanted my teeth to be much whiter.
I did have an idea of what I wanted—my old smile back. I brought in a picture of myself from the time when my mom and I won the Mother and Daughter Ohio pageant. I wanted my new smile to be reminiscent of my past one.

Question: Dr. Marsh, what was done to her teeth?
Answer: Her teeth were chipped and the bonding had discolored. We used veneers.

Question: And then Joyce: what happened with your teeth?
Answer: I came in after my daughter. I had veneers put on my teeth 18 years ago and had to have them redone. I still need to fix my bottom teeth.
Question: How were Joyce’s teeth updated?
Answer: Here’s what Joyce looked like when she first came in.

Her veneers were yellowed and looked artificial. We re-did the veneers, and put on additional crowns for a more natural look. Look at how beautiful Joyce’s smile looks today.

Your smile should be your crowning glory. If you’d like to find out about how to get an award-winning smile, give Dr. Marsh a call. My thanks to Dr. Marsh, Joyce Wilson and Joy Beck.
